DEFENDER
DEFENDER is a liquid natural insecticide formulation. It is being used as a biological insecticide to control a number of insect pests including; thrips, aphids, weevils, mites, hoppers etc.
DEFENDER can control many pathogenic pests and insects. It contains a select range of beneficial soil microbes including; Beauveria bassiana, Metarhizium anisopliae and Isaria fumosorosea . The microbes produce protein toxins which damage the gut lining of the insect pest. The affected insects stop feeding and die within 7-10 days. It is non-toxic, environmentally friendly and suitable for use on any plant, crop, grass, flower or vegetable.
Beauveria bassiana is a naturally occurring entomopathogenic fungus and available in many agricultural soils. The spores of this fungus when comes in contact with the cuticle (skin) of the target insect, the spores will germinate and grow on the cuticle and enter into the inner body of the infected insect. The fungus proliferates throughout the insect’s body, draining the insect’s nutrients, eventually killing it in about 48-72 hours after infection.
Metarhizium anisopliae
Metarhizium anisopliae is an entomopathogenic fungus that infects the Root weevils, plant hoppers, Japanese beetle, Black vine weevil, Spittlebug and white grubs, when spay the fungus spores attach to the surface of the insect, germinate and begin to grow, they then penetrate the exoskeleton of the insect and grow very rapidly inside the insect and cause the insect to die. Other insects that come in contact with infected insects also become infected with the fungus.
Isaria fumosorosea
Isaria fumosorosea is considered a very promising biological liquid pesticide due to its extensive host range which includes insects in over 25 different families, including the diamondback moth (Plutella xyllostella), Russian wheat aphid (Diuraphis noxia), silver leaf whitefly (Bemisia argentifolii) and wide range of mites (Spotted Spider Mite, Red Mite, Brown Mite, and Rust Mite).
Best practice is to start foliar applications early in the season, before pests appear. The microbial spores need to come into contact with the target pest, so it is important to achieve complete foliar coverage. Thrips, whiteflies, and aphids are found mainly under the leaves. Repeated applications are recommended.
